Ashbury 24x24 Painting
Ashbury 24x24 painting (*Abstract Series) is original artwork on canvas by Hawaii artist Thomas Deir. Inspired by a trip to San Francisco where Thomas visited his cousin on Ashbury street between Haight street and the entrance to the Golden Gate Park and broke away from his realism/surrealism disciplined oils and started the freedom of color and looseness of moving acrylic paint. He came home and produced this and “Haight” (it’s sister painting), and “San Francisco Rainbow”.
The *Abstract Series was created in 2018 and 2019, it was a refreshing break away from the discipline of oil paintings. The wild feeling of throwing paint around and focusing on color rather than concept was exciting! Eventually concept did creep in and became something more than just color. In the series, there are various "sub-series" that developed such as the ocean, beach, frond, purple, wave, eucalyptus, lava, sunrise/sunset.
